Course Description

​

This is a 12-week advanced mentorship and professional development program designed for licensed clinicians, psychedelic facilitators, and allied mental health professionals who identify as queer, trans, Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC). The program supports practitioners in developing culturally responsive, trauma-informed approaches to clinical and ceremonial care while navigating the complex dynamics of providing healing work within marginalized communities and predominantly Western professional systems. Participants engage with topics including racialized and intergenerational trauma, identity-informed care, power and oppression in therapeutic relationships, ethical facilitation, and practitioner sustainability. Through didactic teaching, guided reflection, case consultation, and experiential learning, participants strengthen clinical discernment, boundary management, and culturally grounded leadership in their work with clients and communities. Participants gain practical tools to integrate culturally responsive care, ethical decision-making, and embodied self-regulation into their clinical and facilitation practices.

 

Teachings are appropriate for healthcare professionals as well as the general public. Healthcare professionals will be able to incorporate the tools and practices offered in this program in ways beneficial to clients or patients.

Learning Objectives: 

• Describe principles of culturally responsive and trauma-informed care for queer and trans BIPOC clients

• Explain the impact of racialized and intergenerational trauma on clinical presentation and treatment

• Identify dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression within therapeutic and community healing contexts

• Analyze the influence of identity and lived experience on the therapeutic relationship

• Apply culturally responsive approaches to clinical and ceremonial work with BIPOC communities

• Demonstrate strategies for maintaining clear interpersonal and energetic boundaries in practice

• Assess ethical risks and potential for harm in altered-state and group facilitation settings

• Discuss the role of historical and systemic oppression in shaping client experiences and care needs

• Compare Western clinical frameworks with culturally rooted and community-based approaches to healing

• Utilize somatic awareness techniques to support practitioner self-regulation and presence

• Apply consent-based practices in therapeutic and group facilitation contexts

• Analyze group dynamics and collective processes in BIPOC-centered healing spaces

• Design approaches to integrate identity-informed care into clinical and facilitation practices

• Critique dominant clinical models for limitations in serving queer and trans BIPOC populations

• Prepare strategies for professional sustainability and burnout prevention as a BIPOC practitioner

• Create plans for integrating culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and ethical practices into ongoing clinical work

Information on Continuing Education Credit for Health Professionals

 

• CE credits for psychologists are provided by the Spiritual Competency Academy (SCA) which is sponsoring this program. The Spiritual Competency Academy is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Spiritual Competency Academy maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

 

• The California Board of Behavioral Sciences accepts CE credits for LCSW, LPCC, LEP, and LMFT license renewal for programs offered by sponsors of CE who are approved by the American Psychological Association.

 

• LCSW, LPCC, LEP and LMFTs, and other professionals from outside of California need to check with their state licensing board as to whether or not they accept credits from programs offered by approved sponsors of CE by the American Psychological Association.

 

• SCA is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN Provider CEP16887) for licensed nurses in California. RNs must retain their certificate of attendance for 4 years after the course concludes. Nurses outside of California must confirm acceptance with their licensing boards.
